Showcase of Queer Latin American Short Film & Movies
This side event was created as a space to celebrate voices that have been historically silenced. Its goal is to share, celebrate, educate, and bring visibility to Queer and FLINTA+ filmmakers from Latin America, where art and the fight for equality come together.
For a long time, the voices and experiences of the LGTBIQ+ community have been marginalized or erased from the big screen. The fourth wave of feminism embraces this struggle and provides space for new voices that are gradually making their mark in cinema.
We aim to create a safe space for screening, viewing, and discussing Latin American short films—whether fiction, documentary, or experimental—that include English subtitles, making them accessible to an international audience.

MOVIES
Cross Dreamers is the life story of Ornella, Mabel, Mirna and Paula, men who throughout their lives practiced cross-dressing behind the backs of their families, wives and children. Their early fascination with the feminine, the years of guilt and fear have led them to have a double life. However, when they are over 50 years old, that world that they had perfectly armed begins to fall apart.
The artist Pedro Lemebel, pioneer of the Queer movement in Latin America, shook Chilean society in the 1980s under the Pinochet dictatorship with his work. This is an intimate and poetic journey through his work.

ACTIVITIES
HISTORY OF QUEER LATIN AMERICAN CINEMA
The seminar explored key milestones in the history of Latin American cinema that have addressed Queer themes. It highlight the cinematography of influential filmmakers from the region and discuss the Queer codifications used during the dictatorship periods that affected several countries.
